The Gavia Cycling Difference - Welcome!

I founded Gavia Cycling because it offers me an opportunity to be proactive about two things that are important to me: making a positive difference in people's lives and being an integral part of the cycling community.

I love everything about cycling, especially the group ride.  It is an opportunity for me to do what I love - ride and train, coach cyclists and create community around positive experiences.

I began cycling in 2006.  I trained as an indoor cycling teacher and received my certification in a program called RPM; I thought that riding outdoors would help me be a better teacher.  I bought an old bike, eventually figured out how to use the gears (after feeling like a fool more times than I can remember) and found something that I absolutely love to do.  Since that time cycling has become interwoven into just about every facet of my life and has been directly responsible for much of my physical, mental and emotional well being.

Several years ago we began offering group rides on the weekends (initially the group rides consisted of me, myself and I). As time went on more than me three joined the rides with participants coming primarily from Hudson and Bergen counties in NJ and Rockland, Orange and Westchester counties in NY.  We rode our bikes and enjoyed the camaraderie, and of course the pie and coffee.  By participating in two weekend rides we found ourselves getting stronger, fitter, faster, healthier, and happier - but the weekdays were a bit of a challenge for many of the members of our group.

The problem of course is time; not everyone has the time to ride weekdays so the cycle (no pun intended) goes like this: get out to ride Saturday and/or Sunday, no activity Monday through Friday, start again on the weekend.  For some there is the solo indoor ride or the short laps in the park; clearly better than not riding but the first one doesn't provide the group effect and the second does not optimize the time available. No doubt technology has helped make indoor riding more palatable but for me there is nothing like riding with real people. That's just me.  I prefer the concept of P2P (People to People).

We found an opportunity to open a studio that would allow us to recreate the group ride indoors, tested the idea in early 2016 and signed a five year lease in October, 2016; we are here to stay!  We have outfitted it with the latest indoor trainers and technology, allowing us to provide our athletes (every Gavia member is an athlete and a Warrior) with the best possible coaching and training programs and services. The concept of Gavia is to be a safe haven for brand new cyclists as well as an elite training studio for seasoned cyclists.   In addition to indoor structured workout classes we are offering cycling supportive classes, such as Yoga, flexibility and meditation.  We have recently been designated the Official GFNY Training Center in the NYC/NJ area; in addition to GFNY specific coaching and training we will be leading the GFNY Group Rides from June through October.

We would be happy to talk to you about classes, membership, coaching and training , and how we can help you become stronger, faster and more physically fit and find your best self.  It is already there; we can help you reach in and find it!
